April's quiet for me this year. I might have 200 new books and 1,000 new short stories coming your way in 2014, but for some reason none of them are hitting the streets this month. (Note: I'm exaggerating slightly. I really only have 199 new books and 999 new short stories coming out.)
Given the momentary lull in my one-man literary tsunami, you might think I'd take a break from self promotion. HA!!! Like not having anything to promote is going to stop me!
I could always just hype something that isn't out yet. Like Nick and Tesla's Secret Agent Gadget Battle, for instance. It's the third middle-grade mystery I've cooked up with gadget master Science Bob Pflugfelder, and it comes out May 6. Kirkus Reviews calls it "fast-paced," "suspenseful" and "appealing," and we all know how hard they are to please.
I could also harken back to March, when my story "Wheel of Fortune" popped up in the anthology Fiction River Special Edition: Crime. The story's actually an excerpt from my new novel The White Magic Five & Dime, which comes out in July -- and that makes it a self-promotion double whammy! Ka-POW!!!
And if I were feeling really desperate for things to pimp, I could always trot out the cover for the new Chinese-language edition of that old chestnut Holmes on the Range. Because if there's one thing that's guaranteed to thaw out 21st century Sino-American relations, it's the publication of an eight-year-old Sherlockian mystery-Western. You're welcome, world.
There. Now I can take a break from self promotion.
Until next month.
