So those of you who've come here looking for information about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls are thinking to yourselves, "What's up with all the frakkin' cowboys?" And those of you who've come here looking for an update on the "Holmes on the Range" mystery series are thinking, "Pride and Prejudice and frakkin' what now?"
Potential new readers, meet loyal old readers. I think you'll find you have a lot in common. Beyond a fondness for the word "frakkin'," I mean. You like historical novels. You like funny novels. You like novels with a touch of the macabre. You like Raisinets, Air Supply and long walks in the park.
O.K., maybe that's a bit of stretch. Just because you enjoyed Pride and Prejudice and Zombies doesn't mean you like historical novels. But I think you'll like mine. Especially, of course, the aforementioned Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls. Which I won't be aftermentioning, as I'm supposed to stay mum until March, when the book comes out.
Till then, this is all you need to know, PPZ fans: DAWN OF THE DREADFULS RAWKS!!! In my humble opinion. So prepare yourselves to be RAWKed. Like a hurricane. Or a category 4 tropical storm, at the very least.
And here's what you need to know, old-timers: Your friends Big Red and Old Red will be back in 2010 in World's Greatest Sleuth!. (World's Greatest Sleuth! is what I'm calling the fifth "Holmes on the Range" book, anyway. We'll see what the marketing department decides to call it.) It doesn't RAWK yet, but that's because it's not done. Patience, my pretties, patience....
So until your book of choice comes out -- PPZ: DOTD or WGS! or, hopefully, both -- you can sit tight knowing good things are coming your way...and keep on RAWKING those frakkin' Raisinets!

An update on the boys! Thanks, Steve! 2010 early or 2010 later???
Posted by: Marge | November 06, 2009 at 11:22 AM
Definitely later. How much later -- like December as opposed to September, say -- remains to be seen. Actually, I should be talking to Minotaur supereditor Crafty Keith Kahla any minute now, and this is on the agenda. I'll let folks know if anything gets nailed down....

If you really want to scare her, show her some of your profiles of the Lone Gunmen from the X-Files mag days...
Congrats on this Steve--great news--couldn't have happened to a nicer guy! Unless it happened to Jesus, which I don't remember hearing about in the gospels.

It did actually happen to Jesus first, but it's only mentioned in the Apocrypha. And I quote:
"And, lo, He did say unto the editor, 'Who knows the raising of the dead better than I? Just ask my homey Lazarus.' And the editor gave Him the job, and there was much rejoicing amongst the disciples, for the advance was generous, and they were growing tired of loaves and fishes for dinner every night, and the wine-from-water was always chardonnay, which gave Peter headaches. But then Jesus was called up to the Heavenly Father before he could finish the first draft, and there was a great lamentation among the disciples, and in the publisher's office also."

Which should I read first, PP&Z or Dawn of the Dreadfuls?
Posted by: Adam McFarlane | November 14, 2009 at 05:33 AM
Good question! You could read -- and, I hope, get a kick out of -- DOTD without having read PPZ first, but I think knowing where the characters are headed would add to your enjoyment of my book. So if you're interested in PPZ, I'd say go ahead and read it, but it's by no means a deal breaker if you don't.

In Italy we have it!!
Posted by: Stella | November 15, 2009 at 02:30 PM
Hey, Stella! I'm not surprised Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has been translated into Italian. Let me know when you see Dawn of the Dreadfuls pop up on amazon.co.italia or whatever it would be. I'm hoping the book sells to a *lot* of foreign markets...and maybe drags the "Holmes on the Range" books along on its coattails....

I'm thankful that you share your wonderful storytelling ability with readers like me, and I thank you for for the entertaining narrator you created in Old Red!
Oh, and I especially appreciate what a warm and kind person you are! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks for the T-giving well-wishes, Adam! Right back at you! Sorry mine are a day late. For some reason, I passed out after enjoying the turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans and cranberry sauce and rolls and wine and pumpkin pie and carrot cake. Go figure.

Holy guacamole! I just read that Natalie Portman has signed on to star in the movie version of PP&Z. If that movie does well,(not a bad bet if Ms. Portman's onboard)then Steve's PPZ prequel could be coming soon to a theater near you. Go Steve!
Posted by: Julie C | December 12, 2009 at 08:39 PM
Of course, I'm hoping that once Ms. Portman reads the prequel, she'll immediately scrap the PPZ movie and insist on doing *my* book instead.
One can always dream....

I'm an English teacher in Vincennes, IN, and I just put a DOTD poster Quirk sent me in my room, and it sent my students into fits! The kids giving speeches have to see her sweet, zombie face while they talk. I loved PPZ, and I'm so looking forward to your book!
Posted by: Haley | January 06, 2010 at 06:22 PM
Ahhhh, good ol' Vincennes! My grade school in Evansville used to take us thataway on field trips every few years. It's good to hear the kids there are hyped for DOTD. Here's hoping they won't be the only ones buying the book when it comes out!
