Well,

my guess would be....

8) "STOP this AT once YOU black DEVIL!"

**noticed this time I copied and paste the comment.....haaaaaaaa

No cigar for last week's champion -- "STOP this AT once YOU black DEVIL!" *is* actually in the book. (You'll have to read the thing to find out why.)

Any other takers out there?

Brett Battles

Hell, let's go with:

"Gee whillickers."

Big Red

Sorry, Brett. No stogie for you, either: Someone actually says "Gee whillickers" in the book.

That's two down. Now the next guesser has a 1 in 13 chance of getting it right. Hop on in, folks. As the gambling house barkers like to say, "You can't win if you don't play."

Aldo

CAn we try again?

Big Red

Oh, why the heck not? Folks aren't exactly beating down the doors to beat you to it. Give 'er a whirl, Aldo! Seeing as you're last week's winner, I'll send you a different prize should you win....

Here's my guess:

(13) "Why, you filthy little monkey."

Wheeeeeeeeee!

Big Red

Sorry, Andrea -- that line's in the book (although there are no actual *monkeys* in there, I assure you). Care to guess again? You've got a 1 in 12 shot at it now....

Take two:

"Sorry 'bout crackin' your huevos." ?

Big Red

Sorry, amigo -- Old Red says that to somebody in the book after accidentally...well, you can probably guess.

Looks like it's time for a hint: The line that's *not* in "On the Wrong Track" is actually from the "movie" "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"...though it wasn't spoken by either Butch or Sundance.

Any more takers?

OK,
Let's try..."That sure don't smell like gold!" Sounds like Cheech and Chong.

El Jefe

Big Red

I'm not sure who "Cheech and Chong" are -- famous Chinamen of some kind? Like Chang and Eng the Siamese twins?

Anyways, Cheech and Chong may well have said "That sure don't smell like gold" at some point, I don't know. But I do know a character in my new book says it. So I do believe that's five lines down, ten to go.

Keep the guesses coming, folks! At this rate, someone's bound to get it right by simple process of elimination.

You would think this would be getting easier!!! How about:

"I'm not crazy...I'm just colorful."

Big Red

Give the man a cigar! Or, in this case, give the man a free issue of Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. Your prize will arrive shortly, Brett.

Though "I'm not crazy...I'm just colorful" isn't in my book, it's such a great line I wish it was. I couldn't find a link to a site that would let y'all hear it in its original context, so here's the next best thing: another classic line spoken by the same actor in a different "movie."
